Rockets' Red Glare

Apprehension. That's the only way I know to describe it. That feeling I felt as we watched the 4th of July fireworks from the top of the university parking garage. It wasn't that sense of urgency I have when something present just isn't right....more like it's coming, slowly and purposefully.

Something felt a little endangered about this year's 4th....our nation's most American of holidays. Probably because there's something decidedly un-American about our current President. I'm not referring to his place of birth or race or creed. I'm referring to his actions, attitudes and statements toward or about America. I see no love for this country in him. He trots the globe apologizing for us. His words when directed to or about our nation's soldiers are hollow and without respect or feeling. My cousin, Phillip, died in service to this country on Easter Sunday three years ago. He and every member of the U.S. military deserve better than empty and scripted comments.

The people, the men and women who founded this nation worked hard....harder than most of us will ever have the capacity to grasp. Anyone who didn't work didn't survive. But all of that has changed. Today, if you don't work it's okay. You will be given free housing. And free food. And now free healthcare. I'm probably desensitized to the free housing and food aspect of it, but it's the healthcare issue that really upsets me. But that's for another post.

Our current President is destroying our country. The country that so many fine men and women have fought to preserve and protect. The country that has given so much to the rest of the world. But now he wants the Muslim world to feel "included"....by NASA. Um, what??? They did not put in on this! And please let's not discuss immigration. It will only lead to words over Arizona and their redundant little law. Wait....let me just say why I oppose it: It does nothing to protect the border. But the President has shown that he has no intention of protecting or securing the border. So let's please extend that open invitation to come on in, though first you'll have to make it past the drug cartels that actually do control the border. And once you're here, please feel free not to contribute. We will still birth your babies, feed and educate them. And by "we" I mean those of us who have jobs and pay taxes.

Land of the free. Home of the brave. Institution for inclusion. "Make no mistake...."
